Our History
Established since 1973, K.P.Thomas & Sons Development Inc. is a family-owned company with the Head Office located in the capital of Georgetown in Guyana. Together with his wife, Mrs Waveney Thomas, Mr. Kenneth Percival Thomas (commonly known as KP), founded the company. By profession, he was a British-trained, Chartered Institute of Building builder and Civil Engineer.
Under his guidance, over the years, the company became renowned locally for quality, uniqueness and innovation. Amongst several "firsts", it is :-
- the first local construction firm to design and utilise local clay tiles on roofs in Guyana;
- the first local construction firm to use fair face concrete in Guyana;
- and more recently, the first local contracting firm to successfully undertake Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling in Guyana.
Over the years, K.P.Thomas and Sons Development Inc. designed, built and hand-crafted finishings and special touches to several notable buildings by employing British construction techniques supported by unique, local materials such as the infamous greenheart and purpleheart hardwoods. The buildings at the University of Guyana, the Guyana National Insurance Scheme and the US Peace Corps Head Office are examples of such benefactors.
Our team of today
On the passing of KP and the retirement of his wife from the firm, the company evolved, now led by a new generation .... a board of directors, which includes all of Mr and Mrs Thomas’s children. This has ensured that the company has remained truly as a family-own and run business:-
- Mr Ken Thomas is a British-trained, Chartered Institute of Building builder and Civil Engineer. He was educated at Bachelor's level at the University of Westminster in London. He is the Director for Building Construction and Civil Engineering;
- Mr Kenrick Thomas who has a Business & Law Degree and MBA from Oxford Brookes, is the Business and Finance Director;
- Mr Kenley Thomas who has a Bachelors Degree in Forest Products Technology and a Masters degree in Forestry and Land Use Management from the University of Oxford is also a Director;
- Mrs Koreen Thomas-Miles who has a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and a Masters Degree in Advanced Computing from Kings College London is the final Director.
What we do
The company has grown into a property development firm - building and primarily leasing office complexes, wharf facilities, commercial buildings, car parks, executive residential properties and large domestic housing schemes in Guyana.
Focus has recently expanded into infrastructure projects, with the design and construction of roads as well as the renovation of existing and building of new airstrips in the hinterland regions of Guyana; pavement works in urban locations and the renovation and upgrade of the Terminal buildings at the International airport.
There are two other key areas that the company is involved in. They include the supply of building materials and heavy-duty, construction equipment; the latter also including experienced operational personnel for projects in the areas of transport and Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piling.
Our clients include private individuals, quasi-government organizations and government agencies; ranging from The Inter- American Development Bank, the CARICOM Secretariat, The European Union, Caribbean Money Market Brokers (T&T Financial Co.), Repsol Oil Company, Embassies and many others.
